Staff Product Designer

Tailscale Tailscale · Enterprise · Remote · Design

Staff Product Designer at Tailscale, focusing on the Network Features team. This role involves defining design strategy for complex networking and security products, translating technical systems into user-friendly designs, and leading discovery for ambiguous problems. The designer will partner closely with engineering and PMs, deliver end-to-end design solutions, and explore future-looking design questions. A key aspect is integrating AI tools into the design workflow and developing a point of view on AI-assisted experiences in technical products. Requires 10+ years of experience, a strong portfolio in B2B/infrastructure products, and genuine interest in networking and security.

What you'd actually do

  1. Define where design attention is needed across the network features product space and lead discovery on complex, ambiguous problems that often span multiple features or product areas.
  2. Translate abstract technical systems into clear problem frames, using diagramming, system mapping, and design artifacts to build shared understanding and drive alignment across engineering, product, and other stakeholders,
  3. Deliver design solutions end-to-end as needed, whether that means changes to a GUI, a CLI experience, or both, working closely with engineers through implementation and QA.
  4. Explore forward-looking design questions in spaces that do not yet have clear owners or established answers.
  5. Partner closely with engineering and PM counterparts to move from ambiguous problem statements to clear, well-reasoned solutions.
