Staff Product Designer, Retirement

Gusto Gusto · Fintech · Toronto, ON +4 · Remote · Design

Gusto is seeking a Staff Product Designer for their Retirement team. This role involves shaping strategy, aligning teams, and designing a high-trust retirement experience. The designer will lead the design process, focusing on improving setup, account management, and the connection between payroll and retirement. A key aspect of the role is leveraging AI in daily workflows for faster prototyping and learning, and identifying opportunities where AI can enhance the customer experience. The role also involves translating regulatory requirements into clear UI patterns and mentoring design peers.

What you'd actually do

  1. Partner with Product Management to define the customer problems to solve, the strategy to solve them, and the measurable outcomes that matter—across activation, engagement, and retention.
  2. Collaborate with Data and Research to understand funnel drop-offs, behavior over time, retention drivers as well as define success metrics and iterate based on what you learn.
  3. Drive the full design process for shipped experiences—scoping and sequencing work, prototyping, testing, and delivering MVP → iteration → longer-term improvements.
  4. Translate regulatory/tax-driven requirements into clear flows, content, and UI patterns that build trust without overwhelming customers.
  5. Craft compelling product narratives that align cross-functional stakeholders around the problem, strategic options, and tradeoffs, clearly explaining the reasoning behind design decisions and outcomes.
