Okta is seeking a Staff Software Engineer to join their Defensive Cyber Engineering team in the DC area. This role will focus on building data and infrastructure platforms to secure AI, leveraging software, data, and security engineering skills. The engineer will work with security, business technology engineering, and product teams to implement and manage security solutions, ensuring core infrastructure applications protect workforce, endpoints, and corporate data. The role requires strong coding and scripting experience, ETL/ELT pipeline development, automation of security controls, and experience with infrastructure-as-code tools. Experience in highly regulated environments is a plus.

What you'd actually do

  1. Serve as a security subject matter expert (SME) for solution engineering and architecture reviews, preferably in the Detection and Response and/or enterprise security tooling space.
  2. Lead technical efforts to evaluate, design, and implement new enterprise security systems and feature enhancements.
  3. Build, maintain, and enhance custom automation and cloud infrastructure using Terraform or similar tools to support team workflows and enforce security controls.
  4. Develop integrations with APIs, cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, Azure), and security infrastructure to improve detection, response, and remediation.
  5. Write and maintain scripts and automations, with an emphasis on Python-based solutions, to streamline security operations.
