Staff Systems Engineer, Am&d Partner Integration

Uber Uber · Consumer · New York, NY +2 · Engineering

This role is a Staff Systems Engineer focused on evaluating the safety and maturity of Autonomous Vehicle (AV) partners integrating with Uber's platform. The primary responsibility is conducting technical safety due diligence, defining assessment criteria, performing Safety Risk Assessments (SRAs), and ensuring partner systems align with Uber's safety standards. A key aspect involves applying AI/ML responsibly to enhance safety validation and risk identification, while also translating regulatory requirements into engineering solutions. The role requires deep systems engineering expertise, experience in AV safety-critical systems, and strong communication skills for external partner interactions.

What you'd actually do

  1. Define and maintain the technical rubrics and safety benchmarks used to evaluate diverse AV stacks.
  2. Conduct deep-dive technical reviews of partner systems.
  3. Author comprehensive Safety Risk Assessments that synthesize complex technical data into clear, actionable feedback for both the partner and Uber’s leadership.
  4. Partner with policy and regional teams to translate local regulatory requirements into engineering solutions, and perform rigorous safety analyses to evaluate their impact on vehicle systems, user behavior, and operational risk.
  5. Evaluate and integrate AI/ML-driven approaches to enhance safety validation and risk identification, while ensuring appropriate oversight, traceability, and compliance with safety standards.
