What you'd actually do

  1. Analyze, recommend, and drive safety criteria in system design, equipment, and procedures to mitigate or eliminate hazards
  2. Perform technical planning, system integration, verification and validation, and cost, risk, and supportability analyses at all levels of the system life cycle
  3. Apply engineering principles and standards to support, develop, or review System/Subsystem Hazard Analyses, Software System Safety Analyses, Functional Hazard Analyses, and Failure Modes Effects & Criticality Analyses
  4. Develop, review, update, and approve system safety artifacts and system safety requirements
  5. Identify technical issues, propose solutions, and ensure appropriate action is taken to resolve the technical issues

Skills

Required

  • Bachelor's Degree in STEM and 12 years of experience, or Master's Degree with 10 years of experience, or Ph.D and 8 years of experience
  • Ability to obtain an active DoD Secret Security Clearance
  • Experience in integration/development environments applying MIL-STD-882 System Safety Program
  • System Safety analytical experience assessing systems/subsystems, identifying safety hazards, and recommending safety requirements to system design and operations to mitigate safety risks
  • Experience developing safety documents as required in support of customer requirements
  • Fundamental knowledge of principles of System Safety engineering including the capability to develop: Fault Tree Analysis (FTA), System Safety Program Plans (SSPP), Preliminary Hazard Analysis (PHA), System/Subsystem Hazard Analysis (SHA), Functional Hazard Analysis (FHA), and Software System Safety Analysis
  • Knowledge of engineering drawings and ability to read schematics and parts lists

Nice to have

  • Familiarity with requirements tools such as DOORS, Cameo, CPLM, Safety and Reliability tools such as PTC Windchill Quality Solutions, Agile software tools, JIRA, FISHEYE and/or Confluence
  • Working knowledge of Military systems safety and process standards and their Industry equivalent such as: MIL-STD-882, DO-178B/C, DO-248, DO-254, ARP-4754, ARP-4761, MIL-HDBK-516C, etc.
  • Working knowledge of flight test engineering, Software systems integration engineering, and software test engineering
  • Experience in Hardware/Software Integration
  • System Software Safety Experience
  • Experience in Naval Aviation, with knowledge of E-2 Hawkeye being given additional consideration
