Strategic Demand Planner & Capacity Analyst

Apple Apple · Big Tech · Cupertino, CA +1 · Software and Services

This role focuses on strategic demand planning and capacity analysis for Apple's cloud infrastructure, involving the creation and maintenance of capacity models, scenario analyses, and optimization strategies. It requires collaboration with engineering, operations, and finance to translate demand signals into infrastructure requirements and to recommend large-scale investments. The role emphasizes quantitative analysis, process improvement, and stakeholder management to ensure efficient scalability of Apple's services.

What you'd actually do

  1. Design, build, and maintain advanced capacity models that translate service demand into precise infrastructure requirements, driving actionable insights for deployment strategy.
  2. Model capacity with deep uncertainty, running scenario analyses and simulations to provide insights that drive decisions even when input variables are constantly moving.
  3. Develop strategies for optimizing infrastructure capacity, including buffer sizing, utilization efficiency, inventory positioning, and liability management.
  4. Work closely with infrastructure software development platform teams for ongoing enhancements to automate capacity models, reducing reliance on manual planning tools.
  5. Integrate various capacity planning practices to ensure capacity models used across larger properties leverage comparable methodologies, tools, and process flows.

Skills

Required

  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Operations, Finance, Engineering, Mathematics, or a related field with 3+ years of relevant professional experience, OR a Master's degree with 1+ years of relevant experience.
  • 2+ years experience in infrastructure capacity planning, operations, data analytics, or related fields.
  • Proficiency using Excel, VBA, Python, SQL, Tableau, or similar data visualization tools to build and optimize capacity models.
  • Hands-on experience building complex forecasting and capacity models, running scenario analyses, and working with large datasets.
  • Demonstrated ability to distill complex quantitative concepts and analytical outputs into concise, high-impact communications.
  • Direct experience handling sensitive and confidential information with integrity and discretion.
  • Ability to be onsite; this role is an in-person, onsite position.
  • Available to work nights and weekends as needed.

Nice to have

  • Master's degree in Operations, Engineering, Data Science, or an MBA.
  • Experience integrating disparate data sources to automate capacity planning workflows.
  • Experience presenting to and communicating with senior leadership, up to and including the VP level.
  • Knowledge of or experience with cloud architectures (e.g., micro-services vs. monolithic), compute/storage utilization metrics, and associated operations models.
  • Proven ability to navigate ambiguity and respond quickly to new inputs in a highly dynamic environment.
  • Demonstrated track record of initiating projects independently and driving cross-functional programs to completion.
  • Strong ability to influence and collaborate effectively within a multi-functional organization.
