Strategic Sourcing Manager - Batteries

Meta Meta · Big Tech · Sunnyvale, CA

This role is for a Strategic Sourcing Manager focused on battery sourcing for Meta's consumer devices. While the role mentions integrating AI tools and responsible AI practices, the core function is sourcing and supply chain management for batteries, not AI/ML development.

What you'd actually do

  1. Develop and implement sourcing strategies for battery cells, packs, BMU/uBMU, and related battery sub-systems, addressing current and future technical and commercial requirements across Metaverse, Wearables, and emerging device programs
  2. Collaborate with battery engineering, electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, product design, and supplier teams to optimize energy density, cycle life, safety, manufacturability, and cost-efficiency for battery assemblies
  3. Integrate supplier input into the development process by conducting supplier technology roadmap reviews and trade-space evaluations specific to cell chemistry (e.g., Si anode roadmaps), pack architecture, and BMS/BMU technologies
  4. Drive strategic supply chain direction and innovation with product design and technology operations, focusing on next-generation battery materials, cell formats, and pack integration
  5. Utilize expertise in battery manufacturing processes (e.g., electrode coating, calendering, winding/stacking, electrolyte filling, formation, aging, pack assembly, welding, BMS integration, safety testing) to assess supplier capabilities, resolve capacity constraints, and validate cost dependencies

Skills

Required

  • Bachelor's degree in chemical engineering, materials science, electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, industrial engineering, supply chain management, business, or equivalent practical experience
  • 10+ years of sourcing experience in fast-paced consumer electronics, automotive, or equivalent industry, with direct exposure to battery cell and/or pack sourcing
  • Working knowledge in all or any of the following areas: lithium-ion cell chemistry and design, electrode manufacturing, cell assembly and formation, pack/module integration, BMS/BMU, safety standards (UN38.3, UL, IEC), and related battery manufacturing processes
  • Experience in supplier evaluation/selection, should-cost modeling, contract negotiation, and supply base management for batteries or comparable high-complexity commodities
  • Experience with cost drivers and experience building bottoms-up or should-cost models for battery cells and packs (including raw material, bill-of-process, and capex amortization)
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel to run supply modeling and analysis
  • Demonstrated ability to integrate AI tools to optimize/redesign workflows and drive measurable impact (e.g., efficiency gains, quality improvements)
  • Experience adhering to and implementing responsible, ethical AI practices (e.g., risk assessment, bias mitigation, quality and accuracy reviews)
  • Demonstrated ongoing AI skill development (e.g., prompt/context engineering, agent orchestration) and staying current with emerging AI technologies
  • Experience ramping high-volume consumer electronics or wearable products with battery content
  • Established relationships with tier-1 battery cell suppliers
  • Experience working with CMs, ODMs, OEMs, and pack houses in the battery domain

Nice to have

  • MBA or Master of Engineering
