Structural Design Manager (k Level)

Manages a team of structural designers developing advanced structural concepts and technology for various vehicle types, overseeing R&D projects, and fostering relationships with stakeholders.

What you'd actually do

  1. Manages Design Team in the development, integration, and transition of advanced structural concepts and technology for commercial aircraft, military aircraft, rotorcraft, space vehicles, UAVs, and advanced vehicle prototypes.
  2. Responsible for the management, execution, and growth of contracted and internally funded research and development projects. Oversees planning and execution of project schedules, finances, and deliverables.
  3. Develops, maintains, and grows relationships with peers, direct reports, stakeholders, government organizations, industry partners, and universities.
  4. Manages, develops and motivates employees. Leads process improvements and sets operational goals
  5. Collaborate with other organizations, such as Business Development, Contracts, Finance, Supplier Management, and Human Resources

Required

  • engineering knowledge of vehicle design and integration
  • composite material design and production
  • structural arrangement and optimization
  • design requirements and objectives across the product life cycle phases
  • design oversight for high temperature and cryogenic structures
  • structures that experience steep thermal gradients and/or large thermal transients with dissimilar materials with varying CTEs
  • Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering (with a focus on Mechanical, Civil, Aerospace, Aeronautical, or Material Sciences)
  • at least one year of experience in a leadership role (team leader, temp manager, large scale cross functional project/program management, or formal manager experience) OR have completed the Boeing internal course “Exploring Leadership

Nice to have

  • Experience with designing for performance, cost, producibility.
  • Experience in shaping, proposing, and capturing CRAD and Global Technology opportunities.
  • Experience in developing internal research projects.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and execution skills
  • Experience with team building, developing and motivating teammates

What the JD emphasized
