Northrop Grumman Northrop Grumman · Aerospace · Corinne, UT +1 · Mechanical

Structural Engineer at Northrop Grumman responsible for analyzing, researching, and developing structural engineering specifications for rocket propulsion systems and related components. This includes assessing structural integrity, planning material testing, reducing test data, preparing reports, and interacting with design teams. Requires a Bachelor's or Master's degree in relevant engineering fields and FE analysis experience.

What you'd actually do

  1. Assess the structural integrity of rocket propulsion systems and related components using traditional closed form methods as well as finite element techniques
  2. Plan and oversee material characterization testing of various materials used in the design of rockets
  3. Reduce structural characterization test data into analysis input properties and material capability properties
  4. Prepare reports and memos documenting structural assessment activities and results
  5. Prepare and make presentations summarizing structural assessment/analysis results for internal review boards and external customers

Skills

Required

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Aerospace, or Civil Engineering with 2 years of professional experience – OR – Master’s degree with 0 years of professional experience
  • FE analysis experience with MS in Mechanical, Aerospace, or Civil Engineering - Emphasis in metal structures, and solid mechanics or finite element theory
  • Familiarity of design and modeling software (NX)
  • Strong and demonstrated communication, planning, project management and presentation skills

Nice to have

  • Computer skills including NX, ANSYS (Classic or Workbench), and ABAQUS
  • Experience in finite element theory with emphasis in structural analysis, solid mechanic, including static strength, buckling, and bolted joint analysis

What the JD emphasized
