Supervisor/Technical Expert for global Seatbelts at Ford, responsible for technical guidance, innovation, cost, quality, execution, training, and mentoring of engineering teams. The role involves leading SMEs, writing specifications, maintaining technology databases and roadmaps, managing critical concerns and field issues, and supporting global launches and cost reduction efforts. Requires a Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering and 10+ years of experience in Seatbelt Engineering, with preferred experience in DFSS Black Belt, SPC, DFMEA, DRBFM, and safety-critical systems.

What you'd actually do

  1. Technical Specialist for all Seatbelts globally.
  2. Lead, mentor, and supervise Core Seatbelt SMEs.
  3. Lead weekly Seatbelt TDRM and support/guide all other weekly TDRMs.
  4. Write specifications, design rules, and/or test methods as required with high quality.
  5. Provide technical guidance to engineering and program teams on all Seatbelt matters including cost, quality and efficient/robust execution, provide Seatbelts training, coaching and mentoring PD engineering teams and other skill teams as required.

Skills

Required

  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or similar degree
  • 10+ years of experience in Seatbelt Engineering
  • Experience with Safety critical systems and Critical Concerns Process required
  • Strong SPC, DFMEA, DRBFM, and statistical skills
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication and leadership skills
  • Excellent drive for results and capability to understand complex technical issues

Nice to have

  • Master's degree in mechanical engineering or similar degree
  • Very strong technical background of Seatbelts, Airbags, Gas Generators & interfacing-systems and attributes
  • DFSS Black Belt preferred (if not, must complete within 2 years of hire)
  • Open-minded, listen-first attitude. High energy and respectful attitude required.
  • Experience with global Tier 1 supplier sourced commodities and the successful management of such suppliers, in particular regarding quality issues.
  • Knowledge/experience of Ford, PD and Restraints principles, e.g. GPDS, FEDE, DPA.
  • Experience in development of a vehicle program "from cradle to grave" desired.
  • Ability to efficiently lead in a global, multi-cultural and multi-supplier environment.
  • Must demonstrate Ford OS behaviors consistently.
  • Understanding of Restraints business and customer needs including experience with Body Interior safety.
  • Quality and safety mindset, must work with the highest degree of integrity.
