Amazon Devices is expanding its manufacturing and supply chain footprint in Vietnam. We are hiring a Supplier Quality Engineer to take end-to-end ownership of quality for mechanical and electromechanical commodities — including speakers, antennas, cables, connectors, and motors — across a supplier base spanning Vietnam, Mainland China, Taiwan, and the Philippines, supporting product lines such as Amazon Echo smart speakers, Project Leo satellite broadband terminals, Kindle e-readers, and Fire tablets.
This role focuses on four core areas of work:
- New Product Introduction (NPI): Lead new supplier qualification audits, partner with Hardware Design on DFM/DFA reviews, define new manufacturing processes, drive PPAP submissions, and validate process capability (Cpk/Ppk) and reliability test results — owning every quality gate before mass production
- Mass Production: Sustain stable process capability, monitor SPC data and identify abnormal trends early; drive continuous-improvement projects (DMAIC) to reduce DPPM and Cost of Poor Quality (COPQ); manage supplier 5M1E (Man / Machine / Material / Method / Environment / Measurement) changes and quality-impact assessment of ECN/PCN
- Cross-functional Collaboration: Partner with Final Assembly Test & Pack (FATP) IQC teams, US headquarters Hardware R&D, Asia Sourcing, Reliability, Compliance, and Finance to drive bidirectional optimization between design and process; establish IQC standards, SCAR routing, and escalation paths
- Field Issue Resolution & Crisis Response: Respond rapidly to line-down events, ship-holds, and customer field issues — driving containment, root-cause analysis, and 8D closure; plan ahead for predictable disruptions such as Tết (Lunar New Year), typhoon season, and tariff volatility
We are looking for candidates who bring:
- A solid technical foundation in electromechanical-component manufacturing and reliability — fluency in injection molding, welding (including ultrasonic and laser), stamping, overmolding, plating, surface finishing, cable termination crimping; familiarity with cosmetic inspection, functional testing, and acoustic / RF testing methods
- Hands-on proficiency with core quality tools — 8D, PPAP, APQP, DFMEA/PFMEA, SPC, MSA (including GR&R) — and applied statistical thinking
- Working knowledge of industry standards such as IPC (e.g., IPC-A-610, IPC-A-620) and ISO 9001
- The ability to use AI tools effectively to amplify productivity — recognizing where AI is genuinely useful (e.g., 8D drafting, large-scale data analysis, defect classification, document generation, cross-language communication), invoking the right tool for the right context, and critically evaluating the accuracy and reliability of AI output so that final decisions always rest on verifiable evidence
- Multilingual collaboration capability — comfortable switching between Vietnamese, English, and Chinese as the situation demands; business-fluent English is required, and at least one of Vietnamese or Chinese for working-level communication
- Strong cross-cultural communication, proactive follow-through, and structured problem-solving — embodying Amazon Leadership Principles such as Ownership, Insist on the Highest Standards, and Earn Trust
Key job responsibilities
- Lead end-to-end NPI quality across XVT gates: supplier qualification, DFM/DFA reviews with Hardware Design, PPAP submission, process-capability (Cpk/Ppk) validation, and reliability test review.
- Conduct supplier system and process audits under ISO 9001 and PPAP frameworks; deliver Gap Closure Plans; train key suppliers on SPC, MSA, FMEA, and IPC workmanship.
- Maintain commodity quality scorecards (DPPM, audit score, on-time PPAP, field return), lead quarterly supplier business reviews, and drive at least two DMAIC improvement projects per year.
- Manage 5M1E changes and ECN/PCN quality-impact assessments as a change-approval signatory.
- Respond to crises (line-down, ship-hold, field issues) with 4-hour containment, 24-hour on-site presence, 48-hour return-to-green plan, and 8D closure to root cause.
- Partner with US Hardware R&D, APAC Sourcing, FATP IQC, Reliability, Compliance, Legal, and Finance to align design, process, and supply decisions.
- Apply Minitab/JMP, SQL, Python, and AI tools for SPC, Pareto, Weibull, and GR&R analyses; rigorously validate AI output before formal use.
- Drive RoHS, REACH, conflict-minerals, forced-labor, and Climate Pledge net-zero compliance for assigned commodities.
- Mentor junior engineers and supplier engineers; build commodity knowledge bases.

Basic Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Materials, Industrial, or Manufacturing Engineering, or related technical field.
- 5+ years in supplier quality, process engineering, or a related engineering role in consumer electronics or electromechanical components.
- 3+ years hands-on with at least two of: speakers, antennas, cables, connectors, motors.
- Hands-on experience with 8D, PPAP, APQP, FMEA, SPC, MSA (including GR&R).
- Working knowledge of IPC (e.g., IPC-A-610 / IPC-A-620) and ISO 9001.
- Hands-on use of AI tools with ability to validate output reliability.
- Business-fluent English; working-level proficiency in Vietnamese or Chinese.

- Willingness to travel 30%+ monthly.
- Authorized to work in Vietnam.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's degree in a related engineering field; 8+ years in supplier quality or process engineering.
- Certifications: CQE, CRE, Six Sigma Green/Black Belt, ISO 9001 Lead Auditor, IATF 16949 Auditor, or IPC-CIT.
- Led an end-to-end NPI program (EVT → MP); experience with AIAG FMEA (AP rating), Reverse-PFMEA, Attribute MSA.
- Reliability engineering: HALT/HASS, ALT, Weibull, MTBF.
- High-reliability / aerospace standards: AS9100D, AS6081, J-STD-001 Space Addendum, MIL-STD-810/883.
- Python, SQL, AWS QuickSight or equivalent; fluent prompt-engineering use of generative AI with output verification.
- Acoustic, RF, or phased-array testing experience.
- Vietnamese ability; on-site experience in Southeast Asia or Greater China; consumer-electronics OEM or EMS background.
