This role is for a Support Engineer on the Retail Business Services team at Amazon. The primary responsibilities include evaluating emerging technologies, leading incident management, developing automation solutions, and collaborating with peers to solve problems. The role involves working with data infrastructures and potentially leveraging machine learning for automation, but AI/ML is not the core craft.

What you'd actually do

  1. Evaluate emerging technologies and cloud infrastructure solutions to enhance our operational capabilities and system performance
  2. Lead incident management activities, including on-call responsibilities, and conduct thorough root cause analysis to prevent future issues
  3. Develop and implement automation solutions that improve stability, reliability, and scalability across our systems
  4. Collaborate with peers across teams to identify opportunities for solving problems that enhance customer experience
  5. Contribute to operational excellence initiatives by designing robust processes and systems that support our retail operations at scale

Skills

Required

  • 4+ years of software development, or 4+ years of technical support experience
  • Experience troubleshooting and debugging technical systems
  • Experience scripting in modern program languages
  • Experience in agile/scrum or related collaborative workflow
  • Experience with data infrastructures: relational analytic DBMS, Elastic-Search, and Big Data EMR/EC2/Glue/Lambda
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent

Nice to have

  • Knowledge of distributed applications/enterprise applications
  • Knowledge of UNIX/Linux operating system
  • Experience operating highly available, distributed systems of data extraction, ingestion, and processing of large data sets
