Suspension Pd Engineer

Ford Ford · Auto · Dearborn, MI +1 · PD Operations and Quality

Mechanical Design Engineer responsible for the end-to-end design, development, and production release of Leaf Spring systems for Ford vehicles, ensuring components meet functional, weight, cost, and quality requirements throughout the product development lifecycle. This role involves CAD management, supplier collaboration, technical reviews, testing oversight, failure analysis, and optimization for mass and cost, with a focus on new technologies like composite leaf springs.

What you'd actually do

  1. Lead the design, development, and release of leaf spring components and assemblies (including multi-leaf, mono-leaf, and composite applications).
  2. Own the engineering release process, including CAD data management in Teamcenter and releasing components via WERS.
  3. Manage multiple suppliers and support Supplier Technical Assistance engineers in delivering production parts with quality. This would entail on site visits with the suppliers to review their processes.
  4. Develop and maintain leaf spring engineering specifications, design rules, and foundation documents (RQTs).
  5. Lead technical design reviews with the Spring System Technical Expert and Component Supervisors.
