Synthetic Chemist High Potency Lab - Lilly Medicine Foundry

Eli Lilly Eli Lilly · Pharma · Lebanon, IN +1

This role focuses on synthetic chemistry and process development for highly potent small molecule APIs within a new advanced manufacturing and drug development center (Lilly Medicine Foundry). The chemist will evaluate and facilitate the transfer of chemical processes from development labs to pilot plant operations, ensuring readiness for early-phase cGMP manufacturing. Responsibilities include performing synthetic chemistry, assessing routes, evaluating safety, ordering materials, setting up analytical methods, analyzing data, summarizing findings, performing familiarization reactions, conducting use-tests, maintaining lab notebooks, authoring technical documents, and contributing to process improvement and troubleshooting.

What you'd actually do

  1. Perform synthetic chemistry and assess synthetic routes from early phase process research and development labs
  2. Evaluate the safety of the incoming procedures in collaboration with the safety group and process engineering.
  3. Perform familiarization reactions to ensure plant readiness of process steps including chemical reactions, distillations, extractions, and crystallization/isolations at the Lilly Medicine Foundry.
  4. Author, review technical documents, including tech transfer plan, standard operating procedures (SOPs), batch records, campaign summary reports, and deviation reports.
  5. Contribute to process troubleshooting and investigations by supporting process deviations, quality events, and non-conformances.
