System Firmware Engineer

System Firmware Engineer responsible for developing, maintaining, and optimizing reusable components for seamless integration across Intel's client technology ecosystem. This role involves partnering with customers and vendors, establishing architecture standards, researching and prototyping firmware, evangelizing tools, and driving product improvements. Requires expertise in system firmware, software debug, and low-level software engineering.

What you'd actually do

  1. developing, maintaining, and optimizing reusable components that enable seamless integration across our client technology ecosystem
  2. bridge the gap between system firmware implementation and business requirements while ensuring scalability, reliability, and developer experience excellence
  3. Partners with Intel customers, ecosystem hardware and software vendors, and/or the opensource community to establish component architecture standards and best practices across the ecosystem
  4. Engages as a technical expert or trusted technical advisor to drive Intel value and differentiation in or across disciplines such as Client, HPC, AI, Gaming, Graphics, and/or Edge
  5. Utilizes deep firmware and market segment expertise to research, develop, and prototype firmware that leverages and drives broader adoption of Intel product capabilities

Skills

Required

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering Computer Engineering or equivalent
  • 6 to 8 years of industry experience in system firmware, software debug or low level software engineering
  • Excellent problem solving skills
  • comfortable with the use of software tools to diagnose and debug BIOS firmware and software issues
  • Knowledge of C C Python and or other programming or scripting languages
  • Excellent communication including spoken and written English and customer support skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills with proven track record of cross group collaboration
  • Deep knowledge of PC architecture hardware software firmware and Windows OS

Nice to have

  • An advanced degree is preferred
  • Excellent knowledge of UEFI BIOS operations and interdependencies is a big plus
  • Knowledge of motherboard and/or system manufacturing test process
  • Presentation skills and the ability understand specify and communicate requirements to marketing and engineering teams
  • Ability to work in a highly ambiguous environment and to achieve high quality results
  • Ability to international and domestic travel and Travel to customer facilities
  • Experience with embedded controller or BMC firmware solutions would be an added advantage
