Systems Architect - Posix

Applied Intuition Applied Intuition · Robotics · Sunnyvale, CA · Vehicle OS

This role focuses on developing and maintaining POSIX-based middleware and embedded software systems for the automotive industry, aiming to create a universal software foundation for next-generation vehicle intelligence. The Systems Architect will work across the entire software stack, from application layer to hardware abstraction, designing scalable, modular, and deterministic solutions for real-time or safety-critical systems. The goal is to enable automakers to deliver software at scale and drive the transition to a software-defined future.

What you'd actually do

  1. Develop and maintain POSIX-based middleware and embedded software systems from the application layer down to the hardware abstraction layer.
  2. Work across the entire stack to develop new products, features, and tools that meet strict performance, scalability, and safety requirements.
  3. Design efficient and deterministic solutions to a wide range of distributed and embedded engineering challenges.
  4. Ship complex, mission-critical software in fast-paced environments alongside domain experts across a variety of fields: infrastructure, automotive, and embedded systems engineers, as well as startup veterans.
  5. Work hands-on with leading POSIX-based platforms and middleware technologies, including Linux, QNX, VxWorks, and modern service-oriented communication frameworks.

Skills

Required

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s in Computer Science, Electrical/Computer Engineering, or a related field.
  • 10+ years of experience in embedded software development, with a focus on POSIX-based operating systems (e.g., QNX, Linux, VxWorks).
  • Strong experience designing scalable, modular middleware frameworks for real-time or safety-critical systems.
  • Deep knowledge of IPC mechanisms (e.g., DDS, SOME/IP, gRPC), OS abstraction layers, and service-based architectures.
  • Track record of building middleware for cross-domain applications (e.g., Infotainment, POSIX, Connectivity).
  • Familiarity with multi-core scheduling, process isolation, and resource management on automotive-grade SoCs.
  • Experience bringing up software on hardware prototypes and conducting system-level debugging and profiling.

Nice to have

  • Hands-on experience with Adaptive AUTOSAR or equivalent middleware stacks
  • Exposure to Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) using tools like Cameo or PREEvision
  • Understanding of ISO 26262, ASIL requirements, and ISO 21434 cybersecurity best practices
  • Prior experience working with OEMs or Tier 1 SW suppliers
