Systems Engineer

Caterpillar is seeking a Systems Engineer in Kiel, Germany, to coordinate and deliver core engine and mechanical engineering drawings and documentation for Electric Power and Oil & Gas projects. The role involves supporting order execution, defining and designing mechanical systems using AutoCAD, performing engineering calculations, and providing technical coordination. The ideal candidate has significant industry experience in relevant engineering environments, strong interpersonal skills, and proficiency in English and German.

What you'd actually do

  1. Support order execution and pre-sales activities ensuring commitments align with Caterpillar capabilities
  2. Define and design mechanical systems using 2D schematic drawings (e.g., engine arrangement, cooling, fuel oil, lubrication, exhaust gas, and starting air systems) in AutoCAD
  3. Perform key engineering calculations including heat balance, alignment, back pressure, ventilation, fuel and lube oil consumption
  4. Deliver engineering solutions for Electric Power and Oil & Gas projects in line with contractual and technical requirements
  5. Provide technical coordination to ensure consortium and ancillary equipment meet all design, interface, and performance requirements

Skills

Required

  • Significant industry experience, within relevant engineering environments such as power generation, Oil & Gas, or large-scale industrial systems
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to work effectively in a team environment and engage stakeholders across functions
  • Proven ability to interact professionally with customers, providing technical guidance and support during both engineering and pre-sales phases
  • Experience building and maintaining positive working relationships with global engineering teams to support business growth in Electric Power and Oil & Gas
  • Strong understanding of engine and auxiliary system design, with hands-on experience in engineering applications and system integration
  • Ability to work effectively in international environments and a willingness to travel globally (~20%)
  • Proficiency both in English and in German (spoken and written)

Nice to have

  • A degree in Mechanical Engineering (or equivalent), ideally with a focus on thermal or mechanical process engineering
  • Extensive technical knowledge of medium-speed engines, Electric Power and Oil & Gas applications, and associated ancillary systems
