Northrop Grumman is seeking a Systems Engineering Team Lead in New Malden, UK, to lead a team in planning, conducting, and reporting Systems Engineering activities throughout the project lifecycle for control systems within the defense sector. Responsibilities include technical and task leadership, line management, driving decision-making, and ensuring compliance with best practices and standards. The role requires a degree in a relevant engineering field, experience in systems requirements management, knowledge of control systems, and experience in a regulated industrial sector like defense or aerospace. Security clearance (SC) is mandatory.

What you'd actually do

  1. Lead and support allocated SE team in specifying, planning, completing and delivering Systems Engineering activities throughout project lifecycle.
  2. Technical and Task Leadership of the SE team to deliver the planned outputs to time, cost and quality, prioritising work, metrics, resolving issues or escalating as necessary
  3. Line Management of assigned Systems Engineers, which includes defining and maintaining skills and competencies, timesheet management, Personal development, support and reporting.
  4. Drive and support industry best practice for engineering involving designing, development, integration, verification, validation and qualification
  5. Ensure designs comply with approved management plans, using approved design methods, competent personnel, effective delivery systems and design processes

Skills

Required

  • Degree-qualified in a relevant engineering / technical subject (e.g. Systems Engineering, Software, Electrical engineering or similar)
  • 3-5 years’ experience in a Systems Engineering role within defence, maritime, aerospace, or a similarly regulated industrial sector including supervisory activities
  • Experience of systems requirements management, definition, design, integration, acceptance and analysis
  • Knowledge of Control Systems and experienced and/or knowledgeable with PLC, SCADA and related Operational Technology systems
  • Knowledge of System Engineering models and techniques.
  • Able to work with people effectively at all levels, using well-developed influencing and interpersonal skills
  • Team leadership experience or a strong aptitude for managing and developing people
  • Effective communication with internal and external Stakeholders.
  • Demonstrable knowledge and experience in requirements management (inc. tools such as DOORS or similar)
  • Knowledge of marine electronic equipment and/or the marine environment
  • Familiar with industry, military and environmental standards (e.g. ISO/IEC 15288, DEF STAN 00-35, 59-411)
  • Knowledge and experience of engineering safety related systems (SIL 2 / 3)
  • Knowledge/Experience of V&V activities including IADT, Environmental & EMC qualification with external test houses
  • INCOSE Associate/Chartered Systems Engineering Professional
  • Able to gain and maintain the relevant UK Government security clearance in line with the job role (SC)

Nice to have

  • Experience of Model based design techniques including tools such as Enterprise Architect
