Johnson & Johnson is seeking a Systems Test Engineer for their MedTech Surgery team in Santa Clara, CA. The role focuses on system-level testing and characterization of capital equipment products, which include software, electrical, and electro-mechanical subsystems. The engineer will work with multi-functional teams to design, develop, and test medical devices, ensuring system performance and user experience. Responsibilities include developing test methods, serving as a liaison between teams, leading Design Verification, providing guidance, analyzing results, building prototypes, troubleshooting, and performing design reviews. The role requires a Bachelor's degree in an engineering field, at least 2 years of relevant experience, knowledge of various engineering disciplines, a proven track record in Design Verification and performance characterization, proficiency in test method development, statistical analysis, automated testing, data acquisition systems, Python or MATLAB, and Linux environments. Experience with FDA and ISO regulations is preferred.

  1. Develop complex test methods to accurately characterize and verify the system design against performance requirements.
  2. Serve as a liaison between clinical/marketing, program management, and the engineering design teams.
  3. Serve as a cross-functional lead championing system performance characterization and Design Verification testing
  4. Lead Design Verification phase for various New Product Development Projects
  5. Provide guidance to junior members in the team

Skills

Required

  • Bachelor's degree in Biomedical, Electrical, Computer Science, Mechanical or related engineering field
  • 2 years of relevant working experience
  • Knowledge of mechanical design, mechatronics, systems and sensors, and/or electronics and software
  • Proven track record in leading Design Verification testing, performance characterization, and requirements management for a complex Product
  • Proficiency in developing complex test methods including fixturing, and instrumentation
  • Proficiency in statistics analysis
  • Experience in developing automated or semi-automated test methods
  • Experience in using Instrumentation and data acquisition systems for performance testing
  • Intermediate Python or MATLAB coding experience
  • Experience with Linux and development in Linux environments
  • Experience in methodical problem solving and root cause analysis
  • Ability to work independently as well as on a multifunctional team
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

Nice to have

  • Master's degree in Biomedical, Electrical, Computer Science, Mechanical or related engineering field
  • Knowledge of FDA and ISO regulations
  • Proficiency with Python, MATLab, SQL, or C++
  • Experience with understanding Robotic Control Systems
