Also, the Tax Team provides support to internal requests and works with multiple different stakeholders to support product and business launches and new features.
About the role ByteDance is seeking an enthusiastic International Tax Business Partner to join the tax team in the US, to support its rapid global business growth. The ideal candidate is an experienced problem-solver with strong tax-technical skills and the ability to communicate tax concepts effectively to stakeholders, enabling our business teams to develop comprehensive and practical tax solutions across global tax jurisdictions.
- Support business teams in performing tax assessments for new products and initiatives, and assist in designing practical and tax-compliant solutions across relevant jurisdictions.
- Serve as a Tax Point of Contact for assigned business teams, responding to day-to-day tax inquiries with a solutions-oriented and business-minded approach.
- Support tax-related decision-making for commercial contracts, product launches, and operational events, including digital advertising and e-commerce activities.
- Build effective working relationships with internal non-tax stakeholders (e.g., Finance, Legal, Product), and stay informed of non-tax developments that may have tax implications.
- Share updates on business and product developments with the Tax team to support ongoing compliance with international tax requirements.
- Participate in global or regional tax projects related to in-scope products or business lines, under guidance from senior team members.
- Periodically review existing tax solutions and processes, identify gaps or inefficiencies, and support implementation of process improvements.
- Monitor changes in global tax legislation and flag potential impacts or risks to the business in a timely manner.
- Support delivery of tax trainings and guidance sessions to business teams, helping enhance tax awareness and compliance capabilities.
- Handle ad hoc tax-related requests as assigned.
Requirements
Minimum Qualification(s)
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- Minimum 5 years of relevant tax experience, preferably in a digital marketplace, technology company, or professional services firm.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and deliver high-quality work in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong collaboration skills and the ability to build trust with internal and external stakeholders.
- Clear and effective communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to explain tax concepts to non-tax professionals.
- Proficiency in Mandarin is essential, as the role involves frequent communication with Chinese-speaking stakeholders.
Preferred Qualification(s)
- Experience in international tax matters, including cross-border transactions; indirect tax (VAT/GST/SUT) experience in the digital economy is highly preferred.
- Basic understanding of transfer pricing concepts is a plus.
- Experience in the Internet, Technology, Media, and Telecommunications (TMT) industry is preferred.
