Tax Manager, Indirect Reverse Audit - Multistate

This role is for a Tax Manager specializing in state and local indirect tax, focusing on sales & use and excise tax. Responsibilities include tax planning, consulting, compliance, managing engagement teams, and client relationship management. The role involves researching tax issues, audit defense, and nexus planning within a large multistate tax practice.

What you'd actually do

  1. Maintaining and developing strong client relationships on various state and local indirect tax consulting/compliance engagements.
  2. Acting as a trusted business advisor to clients on a variety of issues including sales & use and excise tax overpayment reviews, tax implications of sales and purchase transactions, audit defense services, nexus planning, and voluntary disclosures.
  3. Researching and analyzing a wide range of tax issues and tax implications.
  4. Managing engagement workflow, engagement team resources, and engagement billing.
  5. Assisting with drafting and presenting new proposals to new and existing clients.

Skills

Required

  • 5+ years experience in state and local indirect tax (sales & use and excise tax)
  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or other related field
  • Ability to travel up to 10%

Nice to have

  • Advanced degree such as Masters of Tax, JD, and/or LLM
  • Previous Big 4 or large CPA firm experience
  • Excellent research and writing skills
  • Excellent presentation and communications skills
  • Strong management experience
