Tax Manager, Indirect Tax - Transaction Tax

This role is for a Tax Manager specializing in Indirect Tax, focusing on state and local sales & use and excise tax. Responsibilities include tax planning, consulting, compliance, client relationship management, engagement team leadership, and business development. The role requires strong leadership and experience in indirect tax, with a focus on providing strategic advice to clients on complex tax issues.

What you'd actually do

  1. Maintaining and developing strong client relationships on various state and local indirect tax consulting/compliance engagements.
  2. Acting as a trusted business advisor to clients on a variety of issues including sales & use and excise tax overpayment reviews, tax implications of sales and purchase transactions, audit defense services, nexus planning, and voluntary disclosures.
  3. Researching and analyzing a wide range of tax issues and tax implications.
  4. Managing engagement workflow, engagement team resources, and engagement billing.
  5. Assisting with drafting and presenting new proposals to new and existing clients.

Skills

Required

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or other related field.
  • Strong leadership experience.
  • 5+ years’ experience in state and local indirect tax (sales & use and excise tax).
  • Ability to travel 40%, on average based on the work you do and the clients and industries/sectors you serve
  • One of the following active accreditations obtained

Nice to have

  • Advanced degree such as Masters of Tax, JD, and/or LLM.
  • Previous Big 4, large CPA firm experience, relevant industry or state tax jurisdictional experience.
  • Excellent research and writing skills.
  • Excellent presentation and communications skills.
