Tech Lead / Architect, Global Traffic Infrastructure

ByteDance ByteDance · Big Tech · San Jose, CA · R&D

This role focuses on building and evolving the global network and edge traffic infrastructure, including cloud-native networking stacks and Kubernetes-based systems. The goal is to improve global traffic scheduling, gateway performance, and resilience for large-scale, latency-sensitive services. It involves designing platform-level abstractions and driving architectural decisions around load balancing and traffic steering.

What you'd actually do

  1. Own the technical architecture and long-term roadmap for GTI's global network and edge traffic infrastructure, supporting large-scale, latency-sensitive services.
  2. Design and evolve the cloud-native networking stack, including Kubernetes-based Ingress/Gateway and traffic management systems, to improve global traffic scheduling, gateway performance, and resilience.
  3. Build platform-level abstractions for traffic infrastructure, exposing standardized APIs and reusable capabilities that enable fast integration and innovation for traffic-intensive business teams.
  4. Drive architectural decisions around global load balancing, cross-region traffic steering, and edge–core collaboration.
  5. Partner closely with SRE, infrastructure, and product teams to ensure architectures are operable, scalable, and cost-efficient in production.
