This role is for a Technical Editor and Writer at Northrop Grumman, focusing on creating and editing technical documents such as manuals and specifications for defense products. The position requires strong writing, editing, and communication skills, with experience in publishing and graphic design software. The role involves collaborating with engineers and product developers to ensure accuracy and clarity in documentation, and potentially leading documentation efforts and presenting to stakeholders. It is not directly involved in AI/ML development.

What you'd actually do

  1. Write and/or edit technical documents such as technical procedure manuals, user manuals, programming manuals, service manuals, operational specifications, and related technical publications.
  2. Communicate clearly and effectively technical specifications and instructions to a wide range of audiences.
  3. Develop subject knowledge by interviewing product developers, observing performance of production methods, referring to technical specifications, blueprints, engineering illustrations, and trade journals.
  4. Take strong ownership to drive documentation through process from inputs to final distribution.
  5. Lead preparation of illustrative materials, selecting drawings, sketches, diagrams and charts.

Skills

Required

  • Bachelor’s Degree with 5 years of experience or Master’s Degree with 3 years of experience (Level 3) OR Bachelor’s Degree with 8 years of experience or Master’s Degree with 6 years of experience (Level 4)
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office
  • Experience with publishing software
  • Experience with vector graphic designing applications (Illustrator preferred)
  • Ability to meet deadlines and quality standards
  • Strong interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen
  • Ability to obtain a Secret Security Clearance.

Nice to have

  • Experience with military documentation standards and style guides
  • Experience with SharePoint, Confluence, and/or JIRA
  • Experience with writing procedures and technical manuals that describe installation, operation, and maintenance of equipment
  • Understanding of XML and other authoring languages
  • Experience with documentation authoring/publishing tools
  • Familiarity with database structures to support development of interactive electronic technical manuals (IETMs)
  • Active Secret Security Clearance
