Technical Expert - Suspension Structural Component Design

Ford Ford · Auto · Dearborn, MI +1 · PD Operations and Quality

This role is for a Technical Expert in Suspension Structural Component Design at Ford, focusing on leading the in-house design, development, and manufacturing process for suspension parts (stampings, castings, forgings). Responsibilities include developing engineering foundation documents, creating technical materials, leading DFM/DFA reviews, driving manufacturing process simulations, and managing OK to tool processes. The role also involves conducting test facility correlation studies, developing GD&T, supporting prototype development, managing capability analysis, leading process optimization trials, developing APQP plans, and leading root cause analysis for quality issues. Additionally, it includes system-level integration of active suspension systems, defining system design guidelines, and guiding the development of next-generation chassis technologies.

What you'd actually do

  1. Lead the development and delivery of an in-house design and manufacturing process for suspension structural parts (stampings, castings, forgings), internalizing responsibilities
  2. Develop and maintain the Suspension Structural Component internal engineering foundation documents including design guides, design rules (DR’s), Requirements (RQTs), and interface contracts/agreements.
  3. Create and manage Level 2 technical materials including Process FMEAs, Control Plans, Safe Launch Control Plans, and Sub-component BOMs.
  4. Lead Design for Manufacturing (DFM) and Design for Assembly (DFA) feasibility reviews prior to tool kickoff, ensuring designs align with tool design specifications, plant equipment compatibility, and normal process capability limits.
  5. Drive in-house manufacturing process simulations (e.g., stamping formability, casting solidification, forging flow) to optimize structure and ensure manufacturing process feasibility
