Temporary Outside Plant Technician

This role involves the installation, repair, and maintenance of outside plant facilities, including loading equipment, operating power equipment, and performing construction work like digging holes and placing cable. It requires working outdoors in various weather conditions, climbing poles, and using test equipment to identify and repair faults in cable and fiber optic systems. The job also involves handling heavy loads and working with fiber optic cable from distribution terminals to customer premises.

What you'd actually do

  1. Works with heavy duty power equipment and small tools in the installation, repair and maintenance of outside plant facilities
  2. Operates power equipment such as compressors, pumps, blowers, etc., and hydraulic aerial lifts (buckets) and ladders mounted on trucks
  3. Performs construction work such as digging holes, placing poles, placing cable, air pipe and inner duct in various types of conduit systems and open excavations
  4. Splices and tests non-pressurized cables in aerial, underground, buried, building configurations, multiple conductor cable, coaxial cable and also fiber optic cable from the distribution terminal to the customer premises
  5. Uses electrical instruments such Cable Locators, Resistance Fault Locators, and Open Fault Locators to verify and determine defects in the cable, conductors and wire
