This Test Engineer role focuses on factory hardware testing and supplier management within the Home & Audio division at Apple. The responsibilities include identifying and improving factory test processes, driving suppliers to develop new test methods and automation, managing test processes for various production phases, and ensuring product testing consistency. The role also involves bringing up new contract manufacturers (CMs), auditing CMs, and performing manufacturing engineering functions such as Design for Testability, Product Life Cycle Engineering, Test Process Engineering, and Failure/Data Analysis. A Bachelor's degree in a relevant engineering field and 3+ years of experience in test station design, development, maintenance, or automation equipment are required. The role involves significant domestic and international travel.

What you'd actually do

  1. Deep understanding of the full supply chain test processes. Identify and contribute to the improvement of the factory Test processes.
  2. Drive and support CMs in their effort to develop and deploy new Test methods, labor reduction, and automation, as well as any other promising initiatives.
  3. Manage test process, technical issues, and other test activities for Ops builds, ramp, pack out, and shipping process.
  4. Supervise the testing process to ensure the consistency of product testing across CMs and sites.
  5. Bring up new CM, including reviewing CM org structure, training CM team, and driving new site’s test setup.

Skills

Required

  • Bachelor's degree or higher in Computer/Electronics/Electrical Engineering or relevant fields
  • 3+ years of work experience in any assembly, inspection, test station design, test development, maintenance, and automation equipment
  • Willingness to travel domestically and internationally to multiple locations, at least 30–50% of the time

Nice to have

  • Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to troubleshoot issues
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to work cross-functionally in a global environment.
  • Hands-on knowledge & technical capability in tester design & qualifications, troubleshooting, limit setting, and process buy-offs.
  • Knowledgeable in crafting tester qualification requirements, including calibration, correlation, capability, repeatability and reproducibility, design of experiments, and failure analysis
  • Project management and supplier management experience.
  • Proficient in statistical analysis and skilled in using relevant tools for data analysis.
  • Be able to learn new software and AI capabilities. Find opportunities to apply these new capabilities to improve the factory Test processes and tools.
