Test Technician-electric Power

Test Technician-Electric Power role at Caterpillar's Electric Power Division. Responsibilities include executing electrical functionality tests on ISO switchgear products, verifying product functionality through standard and custom test procedures, organizing corrections with assembly teams, documenting quality performance, and downloading associated software. Requires an Associate's degree in electrical technology or equivalent experience, foundational knowledge of AC/DC electrical principles, basic understanding of ladder logic and relay logic systems, familiarity with PLCs and electrical troubleshooting, and experience with low/medium voltage electrical components. Proficient use of electrical test equipment is also required.

What you'd actually do

  1. Safely perform all testing procedures on switchgear and other ISO-certified products.
  2. Conduct functionality tests to ensure proper operation of switchgear and related equipment.
  3. Maintain accurate quality control records to identify trends and support corrective actions.
  4. Perform quality checks (QC) on switchgear systems.
  5. Complete all required documentation, including test designs, material transfers, and punch lists.

Skills

Required

  • Associate’s degree in electrical technology or equivalent hands-on experience
  • Foundational knowledge of AC/DC electrical principles
  • Basic understanding of ladder logic and relay logic systems
  • Familiarity with PLC’s and electrical troubleshooting techniques
  • Experience working with low and medium voltage electrical components (480 – 15kV)
  • Demonstrated troubleshooting skills, preferably in electrical systems
  • Working knowledge of Paralleling Switchgear and three-phase power systems
  • Proficient in using electrical test equipment such as multimeters, test carts, and power supplies
  • Basic computer literacy and ability to navigate technical software
