Tier II Technician (nd Ii) (government)

This role is for a Tier II Network Technician supporting government clients, focusing on the installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of LAN/WAN devices and network infrastructure. It requires extensive experience in Layer 1, 2, and 3 networking, configuration management, and incident resolution within specific service level agreements. The position also involves collaboration with Tier III engineers and adherence to security protocols.

What you'd actually do

  1. The Tier II network field technician will support the installation and maintenance of the client LAN/WAN devices.
  2. Respond to and resolve incidents, demonstrate troubleshooting skills and communicate with the team.
  3. Complete assigned tasks within Service Level Objectives/Agreements (SLOs/SLAs).
  4. Draft and implement standard network change requests.
  5. Provide support to Tier III network engineers for incident management and projects (site surveys, TEMS, coordinate and install new equipment).

Skills

Required

  • 10 years of experience (combination of work history and education)
  • DoD 8140 IAT Level 2 compliance
  • TS/SCI with polygraph clearance
  • Valid driver's license and acceptable driving record
  • Ability to travel up to 20%
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including weekends
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively
  • Layer 1 network experience (CAT5/6, SM/MM Fiber, Serial cables, SFP)
  • Layer 2 network experience (configure/troubleshoot switches/routers, MAC addresses, VLANs, port security, applying thin and thick configs)
  • Layer 3 network experience (subnetting, OSPF, BGP, HSRP, MPLS, LSP, GRE)
  • Configure and troubleshoot layer 2 switching (VLAN’s, Port Security, Thin Configs)
  • Perform IOS upgrades for Cisco, Juniper, Brocade and Foundry OS
  • Experience with Visio
  • Familiar with ServiceNow and Confluence
  • COMSEC responsibilities

Nice to have

  • Knowledge of CISCO/Juniper RMA process
