Northrop Grumman is seeking a Tool Engineer or Principal Tool Engineer to design, document, and oversee the build of complex tools and assemblies for their Armament Business unit. The role involves using CAD software like NX and Mastercam, understanding mechanics and material properties, and collaborating with engineering teams. Experience with dies, molds, gaging, cutting tools, fixtures, and machine design is required. The position involves significant hands-on work and requires a Secret clearance.

What you'd actually do

  1. Plan, design, document and oversee the build of complex tools and assemblies
  2. Design tools, mechanisms, special machine tools using NX and Mastercam
  3. Create designs and drawings to be sent out for build
  4. Requires knowledge of mechanics and application of mechanical movements
  5. Adapt standard equipment to special purposes

Skills

Required

  • Bachelor's degree with 1-4 years of manufacturing or tool design experience (or Master's/PhD equivalent)
  • Experience creating drawings for manufacturing
  • Experience in machine shop practices
  • Knowledge of material properties and their treatment
  • Knowledgeable in Dies, Molds, Gaging, cutting tools, fixtures, Machine design
  • Design and assemble precise tools and fixtures to work with energetic materials
  • Experience in press tooling (hydraulic and pneumatic)
  • Experience using CAD software (NX, Mastercam, Solidworks)
  • Ability to work shift work (Monday-Thursday 3:00 PM - 1:30 AM)
  • Considerable standing and walking

Nice to have

  • Understanding of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T)
