Northrop Grumman is seeking a Tool Engineer or Principal Tool Engineer to be responsible for the concept generation, detailed 3D CAD design, fabrication drawings, and production support of tooling. The role involves collaborating with engineering, manufacturing, and project management teams to ensure tooling meets performance, quality, and safety requirements. Responsibilities include creating CAD models and drawings, specifying fabrication requirements, providing hands-on manufacturing support, performing inspections, and resolving fabrication issues. Requires a STEM degree and experience in design for manufacturing, 3D CAD modeling (NX preferred), and drafting.

What you'd actually do

  1. Collaborate with internal customers and project teams to capture functional and performance requirements.
  2. Develop initial tooling concepts, feasibility studies, and cost–benefit analyses that address new and existing program needs.
  3. Create detailed 3D CAD models (NX preferred) and production 2D drawings specifying fit, form, and function.
  4. Develop fabrication requirements that incorporate standardized manufacturing instructions (ERP system), along with procurement specifications and inspection plans to guide the production process.
  5. Provide hands-on technical support to in-house manufacturing teams and vendors during fabrication.

  • Bachelor's in a STEM discipline
  • 3D CAD modeling
  • 2D drafting
  • Design for manufacturing (DMF)
  • NX modeling and drafting experience
  • Ability to obtain a DOD security clearance
  • U.S. citizenship
