Tooling Engineer

Anduril Anduril · Defense · Remote · Manufacturing : Heavy Metal - Production : Manufacturing Engineering

This role is for a Tooling Engineer at Anduril Industries, a defense technology company. The engineer will develop tooling, equipment, and layouts to support manufacturing processes for defense hardware, including vehicles. The role involves using CAD, simulation, and computer graphics to enable lean manufacturing principles and improve production flow. Responsibilities include designing and integrating tooling with manufacturing equipment, commissioning, and certifying equipment, and collaborating with various teams and suppliers. The company mentions AI, autonomy, computer vision, and sensor fusion in its general description, but the core responsibilities of this specific role are focused on manufacturing tooling and equipment design, not direct AI/ML model development or deployment.

What you'd actually do

  1. Design tooling and equipment that integrates with factory manufacturing equipment, NC machinery, and robotic welding equipment to enable processing systems for supporting factory development and the future production system. You will utilize computer aided design, simulation, and computer graphics to enable lean manufacturing principles, integrated metrology and visual management, including technologies, tools and processes to improve production flow while enhancing product performance, space allocation and resource requirements across programs and products.
  2. Support tooling and equipment integration, commissioning, and certification in prototype and production development
  3. Develop, review, and validate tooling and equipment concepts to meet performance requirements
  4. Team with manufacturing technology, facilities, and suppliers to create, source, and assess potential equipment and tooling to solve for production needs
  5. Be on the floor communicating and integrating with fellow engineers and manufacturing personnel to perpetuate a cohesive mission-oriented culture
