Northrop Grumman is seeking a Tooling Engineer/Principal Tooling Engineer to support the design, integration, and sustainment of tooling for aerospace composite part fabrication, handling, and assembly. The role involves managing projects from concept through implementation, collaborating with manufacturing and engineering teams, and recommending continuous improvement activities. Experience with CAD systems, metallic fabrication, and project management is required.

What you'd actually do

  1. Manages and supports integration of new tooling from design through sustainment
  2. Supervises and supports critical production builds involving technical tooling processes
  3. Provides communication to Integrated Product Team (IPT) leaders regarding cost and schedule including escalation of any technical issues.
  4. Works intimately with Manufacturing engineering to deliver tools that meet product build requirements.
  5. Recommends and often leads continuous improvement activities to support cost savings and cost avoidance targets.

Skills

Required

  • Bachelors Degree in a Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) discipline
  • Experience in design, fabrication and implementation of tooling used in the manufacture of composite parts
  • Experience in project management
  • Communication skills
  • Experience with general metallic fabrication including welding and machining
  • Experience with 3D CAD systems

Nice to have

  • BS in Mechanical, Aerospace or Civil Engineering
  • Active DoD Secret Security Clearance
  • Experience in a manufacturing environment
  • Experience with tooling for composites manufacturing and handling
  • Experience in design of molds, machining fixtures, handling, and assembly tools for composite manufacturing
