This role focuses on data analysis and insights for fraud detection and risk management within Walmart's e-commerce and physical retail operations. The data scientist will work with large, real-time datasets, identify trends and anomalies, build dashboards, and apply analytical methods to solve business problems. While the role uses AI tools and deals with AI-adjacent problems like fraud detection, it does not appear to involve the core craft of building or shipping AI/ML models.

What you'd actually do

  1. Partner strategically with product development and business teams, delivering insights and recommendations of fraud trends and patterns through effective data storytelling and visualization.
  2. Analyze high-dimensional, fast-moving real-time datasets to identify trends, anomalies, and opportunities for fraud detection.
  3. Build and maintain dashboards and reports to monitor key business metrics and share insights with stakeholders.
  4. Ensure data quality and integrity through rigorous validation and documentation.
  5. Research and apply new analytical methods, tools, and techniques to solve complex business problems.

Skills

Required

  • Technical expertise in data analysis, statistical methods, and data visualization.
  • Strong knowledge of data modeling and data engineering best practices
  • Proficiency in SQL and data analysis packages in Python or R.
  • Experience working with large datasets and distributed computing tools (BigQuery, Hive, or Spark).
  • Bachelor’s degree in a STEM or related field plus three years of related experience or Master’s degree in a STEM or related field plus one year of related experience

Nice to have

  • Experience with business intelligence tools (e.g., Tableau, Power BI, Looker) is preferred.
