(usa) Senior Manager, Systems and Infrastructure Engineering

Walmart Walmart · Retail · Bentonville, AR

Senior Manager, Systems Engineering for In-Store Retail Media (ISRM) team, responsible for the end-to-end lifecycle of digital signage and media hardware. The role focuses on transitioning legacy systems to a unified, automated architecture, driving hardware-agnostic standards, and leveraging real-time telemetry for operational visibility and self-healing capabilities. It involves strategic technical leadership, innovation integration, operational excellence, team mentorship, and cross-functional synergy.

What you'd actually do

  1. Define and execute the long-term engineering roadmap for the In-Store Retail Media ecosystem. You will serve as a key architect of change, transitioning legacy hardware environments into a modern, software-defined infrastructure. Your leadership will ensure that technical debt is minimized and that all engineering efforts align with the broader organizational goals of scalability and vendor independence.
  2. Drive a culture of innovation by identifying and prototyping next-generation hardware and software solutions. You will lead the "hardware-agnostic" movement, evaluating emerging technologies to ensure the organization is never locked into a single provider. Your focus will be on building a flexible, future-proof stack that can rapidly adopt new capabilities—such as advanced sensors or interactive media—without a complete infrastructure overhaul.
  3. Champion the shift from reactive maintenance to proactive, automated operations. You will oversee the development of "Environmental Intelligence" systems that leverage telemetry and machine learning to predict failures before they occur. By prioritizing self-healing workflows and zero-touch deployments, you will reduce operational friction and eliminate the need for manual intervention at scale.
  4. Build, lead, and mentor a high-performing systems engineering team. You are responsible for fostering a collaborative environment that values technical rigor, continuous learning, and ownership. You will balance hands-on technical guidance with strategic talent development, ensuring the team has the skills necessary to manage an increasingly complex and automated global device footprint.
  5. Act as a bridge between technical engineering teams and business stakeholders to ensure operational outcomes meet commercial objectives. You will advocate for the "Power of ONE" philosophy—driving consistency across different business units to ensure that engineering standards support overall business agility, cost reduction targets, and a seamless end-user experience.
