Ux Designer, One Mhs Software Controls and Science

Amazon Amazon · Big Tech · Bellevue, WA · Design

UX Designer role focused on designing operator-facing interfaces for complex automation systems in Material Handling Systems (MHS) and Robotics. The role involves user research, prototyping, and collaboration with engineers to create a real-time visualization platform integrating robotic and MHE data. While the company uses ML, the core function is UX design for industrial automation, not direct AI/ML model development.

What you'd actually do

  1. Plan and conduct user interviews with FC operators, controls engineers, and cross-functional stakeholders to gather requirements and surface pain points
  2. Synthesize research findings into personas, journey maps, task flows, and usability insights
  3. Translate research inputs into wireframes, low-fidelity concepts, and high-fidelity mockups for the visualisation platform and Human Machine Interface (HMI)
  4. Build interactive prototypes to validate design decisions with end users and engineering partners
  5. Partner with UX designers from other FTR organizations to build a consolidated, consistent visualisation platform across the broader FTR org

Skills

Required

  • 5+ years of design experience
  • Experience designing and prototyping with tools such as Figma, Adobe Creative Cloud, or similar
  • Experience acquiring user data (e.g., conducting usability studies, performing user research) and creating personas and journey maps
  • Knowledge of best practices for information architecture and design
  • Have an online portfolio or samples of work on resume, demonstrating experience creating great end-to-end, user-centered design solutions and patterns, across desktop and mobile devices
  • Experience working in a collaborative team and working directly with developers for implementation of designs

Nice to have

  • Experience prototyping (HTML, XHTML, JavaScript, CSS, Flash or Flash Catalyst, or Axure)
  • Experience guiding or managing user research and usability testing
  • Experience in visual design expertise demonstrated through mockups and style guides
  • Experience designing for industrial, operational, or SCADA/Human Machine Interface (HMI) systems
