Vice President, Accounting

The Vice President of Accounting is responsible for the accuracy, integrity, and transparency of the company's external financial reporting and accounting governance. This role leads external SEC and statutory reporting, segment controllership, and manages a team of approximately 125 people. Key responsibilities include SEC filings, close processes, internal controls, and reporting to stakeholders and regulators. The role also involves partnering with business units and IT for technology and data strategy in controllership.

What you'd actually do

  1. Own the Company’s SEC and statutory external reporting, including earnings releases, Form 10-K/10-Q filings, statutory statements, and related disclosures, with full accountability for accuracy, timeliness, and quality.
  2. Lead coordination with Investor Relations on earnings releases, investor supplements, investor meetings/Q&A, and preparation for investor presentations; ensure consistent messaging and disclosure quality.
  3. Lead the planning, organization, and execution of year-end and quarterly close processes in partnership with internal and external auditors; drive timely issue resolution and audit readiness.
  4. Be accountable for on-time, high-quality Accounting & Reporting deliverables; set priorities, remove obstacles, and hold leaders accountable across the accounting organization.
  5. Own accurate and timely reporting of financial information to internal stakeholders, outside agencies, and government regulators.

Skills

Required

  • Bachelors Degree in Accounting
  • Insurance industry accounting and reporting experience in property and casualty insurance
  • CPA
  • Comprehensive knowledge of U.S. GAAP and SEC reporting requirements
  • Strong understanding of internal controls and financial reporting governance
  • Demonstrated ability to assess complex issues, evaluate trade‑offs, and make sound judgments in high‑pressure, time‑sensitive environments
  • Confident, credible communicator who can translate complex accounting matters into clear, decision‑useful insights for senior leadership, regulators, and the Board
  • Proven ability to lead large, multi‑location teams through significant change

Nice to have

  • Public Accounting experience – 10 or more years Big 4 experience with insurance clients
  • Statutory accounting knowledge
