Snowflake is seeking an experienced Vice President, Deputy General Counsel – Commercial to lead their commercial legal team. This role involves managing a team, negotiating complex customer agreements, partnering with various departments, and driving scalable processes. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of SaaS business models, excellent legal and communication skills, and the ability to manage risk and support business initiatives, including those related to AI/ML.

What you'd actually do

  1. Lead a team of commercial attorneys and other legal professionals, providing mentorship, guidance, and support for high-quality and continuing improvement of legal services to project-manage, structure, negotiate, and close very complex sales agreements and other transactional documents
  2. Partner closely with Sales teams primarily, and with departments across the organization that include Finance, Security, Product, Engineering, Professional Services, and Support, on transactions that drive company revenue
  3. Operate at the intersection of Sales, Professional Services, Finance, Product, Engineering, Alliances, and Support teams to proactively identify and address risks across evolving business initiatives, helping the company to move quickly while maintaining a thoughtful, risk-based balanced approach
  4. Effectively manage and prioritize a high volume of concurrent matters in a fast-paced, high-growth environment
  5. Partner closely with Legal Operations to implement scalable processes, tools, self-service, AI-driven workflows, and automation that improve efficiency, reduce cycle times, provide actionable data, and enable the commercial legal team to operate at Snowflake’s velocity

Skills

Required

  • 15 years of relevant commercial legal experience directly supporting a sales organization
  • 8 years of strong in-house management experience, preferably with a successful, high-growth enterprise SaaS company
  • Law degree from an accredited U.S. law school and license to practice law in the U.S.
  • Outstanding analytical, drafting, negotiation, collaboration, written and verbal communication skills
  • Demonstrates strong judgment and critical thinking, and ability to deliver balanced, pragmatic risk assessments
  • Proven ability to build trust and credibility across both technical and non-technical stakeholders
  • Strong background with SaaS-centric issues
