Johnson & Johnson Johnson & Johnson · Pharma · Spring House, PA +2

Johnson & Johnson is seeking a VP, Head of Cell & Genetic Medicines, Discovery to define and build next-generation cell and genetic medicine capabilities, focusing on in vivo approaches and overcoming delivery/targeting challenges. This role involves building and sustaining a state-of-the-art discovery platform, driving innovation across modalities like engineered cell therapies and RNA-based medicines, and embedding translational science into decision-making. The leader will set the vision, strategy, and scientific agenda, lead the discovery portfolio from target identification to preclinical proof-of-concept, and establish differentiated capabilities in delivery science. The role requires attracting and developing talent, fostering scientific excellence, and managing external innovation partnerships.

What you'd actually do

  1. Set the vision, strategy, and scientific agenda for Cell & Genetic Medicines Discovery, leading a world-class organization delivering differentiated therapeutic candidates and platform innovations.
  2. Lead the discovery portfolio from target identification and validation through preclinical proof-of-concept and candidate nomination, with clear achievements, decision criteria, and success metrics.
  3. Build and scale next-generation discovery platforms spanning engineered cell therapies (autologous and emerging in vivo approaches), nucleic acid therapeutics (RNA modulation and targeted delivery systems), delivery platforms enabling tissue- and cell-specific targeting and controlled or repeat dosing strategies.
  4. Drive innovation across modalities where delivery, durability, and manufacturability are the primary constraints, including in vivo cell therapy approaches and programmable RNA-based medicines.
  5. Embed translational science and human biology into discovery decision-making, ensuring programs are supported by relevant disease models, biomarkers, pharmacodynamic strategies, and evidence that increases probability of clinical success.
