Johnson & Johnson is seeking a VP, Robotics Instrumentation and New Growth to lead a team of ~170 engineers in the research and development of Instruments and Accessories for the OTTAVA surgical robotics platform. This role is responsible for the innovation strategy for new growth areas within Surgery R&D, building technical capabilities, and influencing technical and financial results. The VP will also develop a technology pipeline through external assessments and diligence processes, contribute to business strategies, and lead multiple teams. The role requires ensuring product development teams deliver business results consistent with the OTTAVA and broader Surgery business strategies.

What you'd actually do

  1. Design and implement strategies to deliver highly differentiated portfolio of instruments and accessories for the soft-tissue surgical robotics portfolio
  2. Act as technology expert in evaluation of inorganic business development opportunities for both OTTAVA and the Surgery business
  3. Successfully manage multiple complex product development timelines and interdependencies – must be able to balance quality/safety with need to deliver financially viable products to market
  4. Partner with Surgery Strategy Commercial Leaders (Presidents and VPs) to develop a technical strategy for new growth platforms and adjacencies within the Surgery business.
  5. Ability to play a strategic role in technology pipeline convergence across Surgery

Skills

Required

  • BS in engineering, mechanical or electrical or related field
  • 15+ years experience in development or manufacturing of complex products in a regulated environment
  • Experience being accountable for end-to-end Research and Development processes
  • Well-developed business acumen with a strong understanding of financial and business implications of strategy
  • Demonstrated track record of partnering with business development (technology evaluation, acquisitions, integrations, etc.)
  • Strategic thinking with the ability to see the big picture and provide vision and pathway to mobilize teams through change and uncharted situations while maintaining alignment with strategic priorities
  • Demonstrated ability to balance schedule, cost and quality
  • Demonstrated ability to motivate, inspire and influence others across an enterprise to achieve results
  • Demonstrated record of strong technical skills to assess new technology

Nice to have

  • MS or PhD in Engineering Discipline
  • Medical Technology experience in both capital and consumable products
  • Track record of successfully bringing products from concept to market on schedule & within budget.
