Washington National Tax - Tax Controversy - Senior

This role focuses on tax controversy, advising clients on IRS policies, procedures, and examination approaches. Responsibilities include consulting on technical issues, preparing written communications to the IRS, assisting with IRS account issues, and representing clients in IRS controversies. The role also involves developing and presenting training materials on IRS practice and procedure issues.

What you'd actually do

  1. Research, address, and consult on technical issues specific to IRS practice and procedural issues including tax, penalty and interest assessments, statutes of limitation for refunds and assessments, missed elections, and IRS examination and IRS appeals matters.
  2. Prepare written communications to the IRS regarding penalty abatement requests.
  3. Assist on IRS account issues, corrections and reconciliations.
  4. Work with other WNT groups on IRS practice and procedural issues that affect other technical matters such as corporate taxation, partnerships, international tax, mergers and acquisitions and due diligence matters.
  5. Represent clients at various levels of IRS controversy, including examination and appeals.

Skills

Required

  • 3+ years’ experience in a consulting environment or advanced degree such as JD and/or LLM
  • Licensed CPA in state of practice/primary office if eligible to sit for the CPA exam
  • Licensed Attorney
  • Enrolled Agent
  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or related field
