This role is for a senior Automation Technician responsible for leading advanced troubleshooting, mentoring junior technicians, driving equipment improvements, and collaborating cross-functionally to support high-volume automated manufacturing processes. The role involves developing technical standards, evaluating new automation technology, and ensuring system performance at scale.

What you'd actually do

  1. Lead complex equipment diagnostics and resolve high-impact automation issues
  2. Own system-level troubleshooting across electrical, mechanical, pneumatic, and software domains
  3. Develop, implement, and optimize preventive and predictive maintenance programs
  4. Mentor and train lower-level technicians and production operators on automation best practices
  5. Collaborate with Manufacturing Engineering and R&D to support new equipment installation and qualification

Skills

Required

  • GED, High School Diploma, or Associate’s degree in engineering, automation, or related technical discipline
  • 8+ years hands-on experience in automated manufacturing systems
  • Proven expertise with industrial control systems, including PLC programming (Allen-Bradley preferred)
  • Strong proficiency with machine vision systems and robotic automation platforms
  • Solid understanding of manufacturing execution systems (MES) and industrial networking
  • Experience with SolidWorks and CAD software for tooling design and documentation
  • Familiarity with statistical process control (SPC) and failure mode analysis (FMEA)
  • Demonstrated leadership experience in cross-functional technical teams
  • Ability to read and interpret advanced schematics, blueprints, and electrical diagrams
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and a proactive mindset toward continuous improvement
  • Strong communication skills and ability to lead technical training sessions
