Engineering Manager, Identity & Privacy Experience (users, Identity & Community)

Airbnb Airbnb · Consumer · United States · Software Engineering

Engineering Manager for Airbnb's Identity & Privacy Experience team, focusing on user-facing features for identity verification, privacy controls, and regulatory compliance. The role involves leading a team of 6-8 engineers, partnering with Trust, Legal, and Design teams, and ensuring user trust and safety on the platform.

What you'd actually do

  1. Own the identity verification experience end-to-end — guest and host IDV flows, government document handling (Vault), and authentic representation features that verify real people behind every account.
  2. Drive privacy controls that give users real agency — global and trip-level visibility settings, profile access controls, and consent management that balance user autonomy with platform safety.
  3. Deliver high-stakes compliance experiences — Terms of Service rollouts, consent capture across platforms (iOS, Android, Web), and litigation-ready audit trails that satisfy Legal and regulatory requirements.
  4. Partner deeply with Trust platform teams — translate platform capabilities (consent systems, verification infrastructure, risk signals) into polished product experiences, and advocate for product needs upstream.
  5. Navigate ambiguity at the intersection of product, legal, and engineering — many decisions in this space involve tradeoffs between user experience, regulatory requirements, and technical feasibility. You'll need to frame these tradeoffs clearly and drive alignment.
