Hardware Lab Technician

Hardware Lab Technician supporting audio, thermal, and other hardware engineers in an R&D environment for next-generation Spectacles (AR glasses). Responsibilities include performing acoustic and thermal testing, characterization, data collection, and troubleshooting using specialized equipment. Requires experience with test setup, data collection, scripting tools (Python/Matlab), and lab equipment operation.

What you'd actually do

  1. Support a team of Audio, Thermal, and other hardware engineers in a fast-paced R&D environment
  2. Perform acoustic and thermal testing and characterization of next-generation wearable devices using equipment including microphones, speakers, thermocouples, anechoic/thermal test chambers, DAQs, and IR Cameras.
  3. Follow operating procedures to set up, perform measurements, and collect data on a range of equipment including connecting necessary equipment and sensors, executing test scripts, and reporting data to engineering teams.
  4. Clearly track, prioritize, & execute multiple competing requests with minimal supervision, based on customer requirements

Skills

Required

  • Ability to conduct device test setup, data collection, and compile/communicate results
  • Ability to read, understand, and follow instructions, schematics, procedures, and technical diagrams accurately.
  • Ability to quickly learn new equipment and operating procedures
  • Ability to configure, troubleshoot, and modify prototypes, test equipment, and fixtures
  • Knowledge of Python, Matlab, or other test scripting and automation tools
  • Mastery of common office productivity software and ability to configure and maintain Mac/Windows computers.
  • A.S., B.S., or technical training related to a science or engineering field, or equivalent additional related professional experience.
  • 3+ years laboratory technician experience.
  • Must be able to actively work in a lab environment, lift/move up to 50lbs, sit/stand for extended time periods, and conduct repetitive tasks using hands, wrists, and arms.
  • This role requires 5 days a week in person presence at our Santa Monica office.

Nice to have

  • B.S in a science or engineering field
  • 5+ years laboratory experience working with consumer electronics
  • Industry experience with Acoustic test and measurement and/or audio recording and production.
  • Experience with Thermal test and measurement.
  • Demonstrated technical aptitude and fast hands-on learner for hands-on fabrication, assembly, trouble-shooting and problem-solving around hardware, software, and equipment
  • Experience with Python, MATLAB or other test scripting and automation tools.
  • Experience with SoundCheck, Audio Precision and HBK measurement tools.
  • Experience operating metrology equipment (Keyence, Instron, etc.)
  • Hands-on experience performing PCB & component reworks and soldering on electronic devices
