Mission Engineer - Baton Rouge

Axon Axon · Enterprise · United States · 1570 GSS TAM SW

This role involves building and deploying AI-powered agents, workflows, and integrations within customer environments (public safety agencies). The engineer will translate agency problems into technical solutions using Axon's AI platform, focusing on shipping working software, driving adoption, and iterating based on user feedback and operational outcomes. The role requires a strong builder instinct, technical expertise across various domains, and the ability to manage the full lifecycle of deployed solutions, including troubleshooting and ensuring compliance with regulations like CJIS.

What you'd actually do

  1. Discover agency problems onsite and translate them into buildable, compliant solutions tied to mission outcomes
  2. Design and ship working tools on Axon's platform: AI agents, workflows, automations, integrations, and data pipelines — built and tested with real users and real data
  3. Build and deploy AI-powered workflows (agents, prompts, RAG, evaluations) that solve defined agency problems — not generic experimentation
  4. Iterate in the field until adoption sticks, then document patterns for reuse across accounts
  5. Troubleshoot onsite and coordinate root-cause resolution across Product, Engineering, Support, and Services when builds or integrations break

Skills

Required

  • Experience in customer-facing technical roles, program management, operational transformation, or complex deployment environments
  • Proven builder: you have shipped working automations, agents, workflows, integrations, or AI-enabled tools in customer environments
  • Comfort working across technical and operational domains: hardware, software, cloud, AI-enabled technologies, and integrated systems
  • Strong communication with both technical teams and senior stakeholders, including command staff in mission-critical environments
  • Full ownership mentality in ambiguous, fast-changing environments
  • Ability to obtain and maintain CJIS compliance and adhere to security standards

Nice to have

  • Former law enforcement or military experience
  • Experience in public safety, law enforcement, corrections, or other mission-critical operational environments
  • Familiarity with Records, Evidence, digital workflows, AI-enabled platforms, or integrated public safety ecosystems

What the JD emphasized

  • ship working software, not slideware
  • Proven builder: you have shipped working automations, agents, workflows, integrations, or AI-enabled tools in customer environments — configuring products, writing integration logic, and delivering production-ready solutions. Using AI to assist is expected; owning the build is required
  • Apply responsible innovation guardrails — CJIS, evidence integrity, privacy — in every build
  • Ability to obtain and maintain CJIS compliance and adhere to security standards
