Instacart is seeking a Senior Analyst, Tax Provision & Compliance to support quarterly and annual income tax provision in accordance with ASC 740 and related standards, and to contribute to income tax compliance processes. This role involves preparing and reviewing tax provisions, supporting tax accounting for stock-based compensation, modeling future tax rates, drafting disclosures for SEC filings, maintaining SOX-compliant documentation, preparing federal and state income tax returns, monitoring legislative changes, and driving process optimization through tax technology and automation.

What you'd actually do

  1. Prepare and review the quarterly and annual income tax provision in compliance with ASC 740, FIN 18, and related standards.
  2. Execute and review global income tax reporting calculations, including deferred tax assets/liabilities, valuation allowances, uncertain tax positions (FIN 48), and effective tax rate analyses.
  3. Support tax accounting for stock-based compensation and prepare return-to-provision reconciliations to ensure accuracy and completeness.
  4. Partner with FP&A to model and forecast future effective tax rates and cash taxes; provide scenario analyses to inform business decisions.
  5. Draft and support tax disclosures for SEC filings (10-K, 10-Q) and other financial statements in partnership with Controllership and Investor Relations.

Skills

Required

  • 3–5+ years of progressive corporate income tax experience focused on ASC 740 tax provision and U.S. federal and multistate income tax compliance in public accounting and/or a corporate tax department.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • Hands-on experience preparing and/or reviewing quarterly and annual tax provisions, including deferred tax, valuation allowance, and uncertain tax position (FIN 48) analyses.
  • Experience preparing and/or reviewing U.S. federal and multistate corporate income tax returns, including estimated and extension payment calculations and return-to-provision reconciliations.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel (e.g., advanced formulas and pivot tables) to analyze large datasets and build robust workpapers.
  • Experience supporting SOX controls for income tax reporting and working with internal and external auditors.
  • Demonstrated cross-functional collaboration with Controllership/Accounting, FP&A, and Legal on tax accounting and reporting deliverables.

Nice to have

  • Background in public accounting (Big 4 preferred) and/or corporate tax at a multinational public company.
  • CPA and/or MST (Master’s in Taxation).
  • Experience with stock-based compensation tax accounting (ASC 718) and drafting SEC tax disclosures for Forms 10-K and 10-Q.
  • Familiarity with international tax concepts and U.S. taxation of foreign operations (GILTI, FDII, Subpart F) and awareness of Pillar Two developments.
  • Experience with Onesource Tax Provision (or similar), Oracle ERP, and Google Workspace; comfort implementing new tax technology and automation.
  • Experience supporting income tax audits and R&D tax credit studies; exposure to Section 174 capitalization.
  • Track record of building or improving processes in fast-paced environments with multiple, time-sensitive deadlines.
