Senior Cloud Software Engineer

Snap Snap · Consumer · Zurich - Switzerland

Senior Cloud Software Engineer responsible for designing, building, and operating foundational cloud platform components on AWS and GCP that power Spectacles and AR experiences. This includes building shared infrastructure for service mesh, identity, observability, secure compute environments, and data/compute platforms, and owning services end-to-end in production.

What you'd actually do

  1. Design, build, and operate foundational cloud platform components on AWS and GCP that power Spectacles and the next generation of AR experiences at Snap.
  2. Build shared infrastructure for Spectacles - such as service mesh, identity and access management, observability, secure compute environments, and multi-region data and compute platforms - that engineering teams across Specs consume as reusable building blocks.
  3. Own services end-to-end in production, including SLOs, on-call rotations, capacity planning, and incident response, ensuring Spectacles experiences stay reliable globally.
  4. Engineer infrastructure with strong isolation, encryption, and access-control guarantees so security and privacy are built in by design - a critical bar for a wearable, always-on AR device.
  5. Partner with internal product and engineering teams across Specs to onboard them onto new platform capabilities and make sure those platforms meet their requirements.

Skills

Required

  • BS/MS in Computer Science, a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience
  • Hands-on experience designing, building, and operating distributed systems and cloud infrastructure at scale on AWS (e.g. EC2, EKS, S3, IAM, VPC, KMS)
  • Proficiency in Go
  • Production experience with Kubernetes, Docker, Terraform, and CI/CD pipelines
  • Strong fundamentals in distributed systems, networking, and cloud architecture
  • Ability to drive scope and deliver complex platform projects with minimal supervision
  • Strong problem-solving skills and a bias for diving into end-to-end details
  • Friendly, efficient, and proactive communicator who collaborates effectively across engineering, security, privacy, product, and design teams
  • Comfortable balancing the need to ship foundational capabilities quickly with the stability and operational maturity expected of platform infrastructure

Nice to have

  • Experience operating workloads on Google Cloud Platform (GCP) in addition to AWS, and familiarity with multi-cloud and multi-region architectures
  • Hands-on experience building shared platform components - service mesh (Istio, Linkerd, or Envoy), networking, identity, or observability -consumed by other engineering teams
  • Familiarity with observability tooling (Prometheus, Grafana, OpenTelemetry) and secrets / identity management (Vault, SPIFFE/SPIRE, mTLS)
  • Experience with confidential / secure compute environments, zero-trust architectures, or privacy-preserving systems
  • Working knowledge of C++, Java, Python, and/or TypeScript in addition to Go
  • Prior experience leading a small team of junior-to-senior engineers and owning platform-level technical direction
  • Experience supporting consumer hardware, wearables, or AR/VR products from the cloud
