Senior Mechanical Engineer - Continuous Improvement

Apptronik is seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer to lead continuous improvement initiatives for their Apollo humanoid robot platform. The role involves driving design, process, and performance enhancements across the entire robotic system, conducting root cause analysis, optimizing mechanical designs for manufacturability, reliability, and cost-effectiveness, and collaborating with cross-functional teams. The ideal candidate will have expertise in CAD, FEA, GD&T, manufacturing processes, and a strong background in complex electromechanical systems, particularly in robotics.

What you'd actually do

  1. Lead continuous improvement initiatives for the Apollo humanoid robot, identifying and addressing design and manufacturing bottlenecks.
  2. Conduct root cause analysis on system failures, performance issues, and production inefficiencies to implement robust solutions.
  3. Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including electrical, software, and manufacturing engineers, to integrate improvements seamlessly.
  4. Optimize mechanical designs for manufacturability, reliability, and cost-effectiveness.
  5. Design, prototype, and test new components and sub-systems to enhance overall robot performance.

Skills

Required

  • Expertise in CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, CATIA, or similar)
  • FEA simulation
  • Strong understanding of GD&T
  • Tolerance analysis
  • Manufacturing processes like CNC machining, 3D printing, and injection molding
  • Hands-on experience with prototyping and testing
  • Use of lab equipment
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field
  • 7+ years of experience in a mechanical engineering role
  • Strong focus on design for manufacturing
