Sr. Manager, Broker-dealer Financial Operations & Controls

This role oversees and manages the financial and operational aspects of Betterment's broker-dealer business, ensuring compliance with industry regulations, maintaining accurate financial records, and optimizing operational processes. Responsibilities include daily reconciliations, monitoring firm liquidity and net capital, enhancing controls, preparing regulatory filings, and acting as the main counterpoint with auditors.

What you'd actually do

  1. Complete and oversee daily reconciliations, investigating and resolving any breaks
  2. Monitor firm liquidity and net capital, overseeing all transactional processes including money movements and securities processing
  3. Enhance, implement, and execute against additional controls related to broker dealer compliance
  4. Work with the FINOP to prepare and file weekly, monthly, and annual reporting, such as Reserve Calculations, Net Capital Computations, and year-end financial packages
  5. Act as main counterpoint with auditors for our annual broker-dealer reviews

Skills

Required

  • Bachelor's or Master's Degree in Accounting
  • CPA License Series 27 or ability to rapidly obtain
  • Minimum of 5+ years of accounting experience in public accounting, preferably in audit
  • Strong experience with financial reporting
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
  • Exceptional communication skills, both written and verbal

  • Experience working with a FINOP at a broker-dealer or clearing firm
