Staff Hardware Integration Engineer

Apptronik Apptronik · Robotics · HQ · Hardware

Staff Hardware Integration Engineer at Apptronik, a robotics company building advanced humanoid robots (Apollo). This role focuses on leading cross-disciplinary teams (ME, EE, Wire Harness) to diagnose systemic hardware issues, perform root cause analysis, implement corrective actions, and improve fleet reliability for commercialization and mass production.

What you'd actually do

  1. Lead a dedicated team of ME, EE, and Harness engineers.
  2. Spearhead deep-dive investigations into fleet-wide failures.
  3. Own the lifecycle of hardware improvements.
  4. Partner with software and data teams to utilize robot telemetry.
  5. Act as the primary bridge between Field Operations and R&D.

Skills

Required

  • Hardware integration
  • Systems engineering
  • Robotics
  • Cross-disciplinary leadership (ME, EE, Harness)
  • Root Cause Analysis (RCA) methodologies (Fishbone, 5 Whys, 8D, FMEA)
  • Hardware product lifecycle management
  • Failure analysis
  • Board-level debugging
  • Collaboration with manufacturing and quality teams
  • Signal integrity
  • Thermal analysis
  • Engineering Change Orders (ECOs)
  • Robot telemetry utilization
  • Field operations to R&D translation

Nice to have

  • B.S. or M.S. in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, or a related field.

What the JD emphasized

  • hardware remains resilient in the real world
  • cross-disciplinary task force—spanning Mechanical (ME), Electrical (EE), and Wire Harness engineering
  • diagnose systemic issues
  • drive rigorous Root Cause Analysis (RCA)
  • implement permanent corrective actions
  • signal integrity issue in a high-density harness
  • thermal fatigue failure in a joint actuator
  • drafting Engineering Change Orders (ECOs)
  • validating fixes in the lab
  • pushing design to production
  • overseeing the rollout of retrofits
  • define the monitors and error codes needed to catch integration "drift" before it leads to downtime
  • translate field failures into actionable design requirements
  • Proactively initiate and lead improvement initiatives to enhance system reliability and increased uptime
  • expert in one field but can speak the "language" of all three (ME, EE, Harness)
  • Expert-level experience with RCA methodologies (Fishbone, 5 Whys, 8D, FMEA)
  • Proven experience sustaining hardware products throughout their lifecycle, including failure analysis, board-level debugging, and collaboration with manufacturing and quality teams.
  • Proven ability to identify recurring issues, drive root cause analysis, and implement design or process improvements to enhance system reliability and reduce field failures.
